Norwegian Cruise Line Debuts New Great Tides Waterpark on Great Stirrup Cay

Norwegian Cruise Line recently celebrated the grand opening of Great Tides Waterpark, an expansive six-acre addition to the line's gorgeous private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay. The new experience officially opened last month during a Caribbean sailing aboard Norwegian Luna. Plus, Great Stirrup Cay now allows for two ships to dock directly at the island without using tender boats. Read on to find out about everything new at Great Stirrup Cay!

Thrills, Slides, and Family Fun

The brand new Great Tides Waterpark features 19 waterslides and activities designed for travelers of all ages. Thrill-seekers can head to Cliffside Cove to test out the cruise industry's first 10-to-15-foot cliff jumps; Tidal Tower houses Breakwater Blasters, dueling “Master Blaster” slides that use high-pressure water jets to launch inner tubes uphill before dropping through steep twists. It’s like a waterslide and roller coaster in one!

Guests interested in multi-person fun can race down The Great Slide, the Caribbean's only four-person body slide. For a more relaxed experience, float down The Wandering River, which features an immersive tunnel. Families with younger children can spend time at Splash Cay, a dedicated area designed for younger guests to play safely.

New Food and Beverage Outlets

The waterpark expansion includes several new dining venues alongside complimentary buffet-style options. Some of these new food options carry a charge and are not included.

  • Low Tide Smoke serves slow-smoked barbecue favorites, including St. Louis pork riblets, barbecue pork nachos, chicken wings, and crispy buffalo cauliflower.

  • Catch of the Cay offers seafood dishes such as crispy shrimp rolls, golden fried shrimp baskets, and chilled seafood rolls served with seasoned waffle fries.

  • Tidal Treats features handcrafted desserts served in bubble waffle bowls, including strawberry red velvet sundaes and ultimate chocolate brownie sundaes, alongside tropical fish-shaped waffle cones with soft-serve ice cream.

  • Grotto Bar sits at Cliffside Cove under The Great Slide, offering views of the cliff jumps.

  • Floataway Bar is built directly into The Wandering River so guests can grab a beverage without leaving the water. Gotta love that!

And the most commonly asked question? YES, those with NCL's Free at Sea unlimited beverage package can enjoy their included drink benefits while visiting the island! Cheers!

Upgraded Cabanas and Private Spaces

Travelers looking for extra privacy or relaxation can choose from several upgraded options across Great Stirrup Cay. Private cabanas inside Great Tides Waterpark hold up to six people and include admission to the waterpark - an excellent value! Adults seeking a quieter atmosphere can purchase a day pass to the Vibe Shore Club, an exclusive space featuring premium loungers and a private bar.

Guests can also reserve private poolside or beachfront cabanas across the island. For a luxury retreat, Silver Cove remains available with air-conditioned villas, a private beach area, an exclusive restaurant, an infinity pool, and dedicated spa services.
