Guide to Visiting Walt Disney World in the Summer
If you are thinking about a trip to Walt Disney World in the summer be ready to experience extremes in the weather. Nearly everyday you will have intense HOT and humid days with a very predictable afternoon storm.
Typically this afternoon storm is short and powerful, it empties the parks and brings the temperature down for a while, but before too long, the heat (and people!) return. Occasionally, the storms will last longer and you may need to be flexible in your plans.
Some people stay away from Florida in the summer due to the heat; however, with some smart planning it is completely doable! Plus, summer has some of the lowest crowds!
Here are some quick tips:
Use neck fans and cooling towels.
Stay hydrated! Carry a water bottle with you.
Take advantage of the mornings or after the sun has gone down.
Wear moisture-wicking clothing.
Bring a poncho or umbrella with you each day into the parks.
Wear shoes that can get wet, and have an extra pair in the room to switch into.
Consider doing a sit down lunch in the peak heat of the day - you will sit in the air conditioning for an hour, you can rest, recharge and rehydrate!
Take advantage of indoor shops, exhibits and shows to get out of the sun.
Purchase Lightning Lane or splurge on a VIP Tour to avoid standing in hot lines for a long time.
Take an afternoon break. Expect the pools to be busy, and don’t be surprised if the water feels warm rather than refreshing in the summer heat. Even so, a break can be a great way for everyone to recharge. Also, consider a nap or just downtime in a dark and cool room.
